CPAC Meeting Minutes

NEXT MEETING DATE: Tuesday June 14th, 2011 at 4 PM at the Southtown Planning Center, 6814 Troost Ave.

On May 10, 2011, eight (8) representatives from the business and residential community in 231’s radio beat, city and state departments and four (4) representatives from Metro Patrol Division met for the one hundred and eighty-fifth Community Police Action Cooperative (CPAC) meeting.  The meeting lasted from 4-4:55pm.

The Mulcahy’s shared informative handouts with the group that addressed preparedness for emergency situations.  They stressed the importance of being aware that even the worst can happen here in the Midwest and to make efforts to gather important items such as identification, cash, water and various other food and critical documents that would be vital if a natural disaster or terrorist attack would occur.

Sgt. Pearce gave the April Crime Stats: Robberies: There was two (2) Armed robberies (one was a purse snatch that turned violent).  Burglaries:  There were eight (8) residential burglaries (vacant home burglaries are down due to a suspect being arrested). It was suggested to leave front lights on and have motion lights in the rear of the home. Stealings:  There were four (4) from buildings, nine (9) from shoplifting, twelve (12) from auto, fifteen (15) auto parts (wheels/tires) and five (5) other. Auto Thefts:  There were three (3) stolen (all three were recovered.) The current trend is the stealing of wheels and tires which are in turn sold on EBay or Craig’s list back to the public.

Neighborhood reports:

Brookside: Gary reported things have been pretty quiet. Security reported only one theft during the Art Annual. There was minimal graffiti which was easily removed.

Armour Hills: Craig reported that the tire/wheel thieves have visited his area.

Tower Homes:  John Bozarth reported that the park has been reasonably quiet. Signs have been posted to reinforce the “No Driving on Grass” ordinance.  Sgt. Pearce said that a “no tolerance” policy is in effect.  John had a concern that drug deals are still taking place across the street.   Sgt. Pearce said he would further his concern to the bike patrol and PM shifts. The gas station at 75th and Holmes has not been a problem recently.  There has been a well-dressed tall WM that has been going through the neighborhood rattling doors.

HERE’S WALDO: June 6th is their Garage Sale date.  The Sunnyside traffic is picking up and the dogs in the spray park are still an issue.

Ward Parkway Homes:  South-Broadland Yard Sale is scheduled for this weekend.  Yard sales and Dumpster Day are being scheduled for May.  In June there will be a Garden Tour and Annual Picnic.

Waldo Homes Association:  They have new officers and will send their names to the office.  The neighborhood volunteers cleaned up the honeysuckle and are pleased that the water hydrant issues have been fixed.

Waldo Roadrunners: Lt. Garcia stated that things have been quiet however they have been dealing with usual panhandlers in the area.

Other issues:  Since there were no other issues, the meeting adjourned.

The next C.P.A.C. meeting is scheduled for June 14th at 4:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Southtown Planning Center at 6814 Troost. Please continue to network with other C.P.A.C. members, and residents, to encourage their attendance.
