CPAC Meeting Minutes

NEXT MEETING DATE: Tuesday February 9th, 2010 at 4 PM at the Southtown Planning Center, 6814 Troost Ave.

On January 12, 2010, twelve (12) representatives from the business and residential community in 231’s radio beat, city and state departments and two (2) representatives from Metro Patrol Division met for the one hundred and seventieth Community Police Action Cooperative (CPAC) meeting.  The meeting lasted from 4-5pm.

The meeting was opened with a review of the “Treats for Metro” project.  Thanks were extended to the neighborhoods and organizations that provided treats to Metro this past year.  February is Rockhill Gardens; March- Charlie Hooper’s, April- Waldo Homes, and May is Rockhill Manor.  These groups should get with John Trainor to coordinate the amount of food, the delivery time, etc.

Sgt. James Pearce provided the crime statistics for December.  There were 3 robberies:  one at Kentucky Fried Chicken/Price Chopper that was discussed last month, Pizza Hut where employees closing down for the evening were taken back into the restaurant and robbed; and the 7/11 on 63rd St. at 2:24 in the morning on New Year’s Day by 2 black males with a hand gun.

There were 26 burglaries with one as non-residential at a used car lot.  The majority of the residential burglaries were forced entry through the front door at all times of the day.  TV’s, stereos and other electronics are the major items being taken.  Metro has seen a decrease in the number of stolen autos and burglaries.

There were 3 stolen autos all of which were running at the time they were taken and 2 have been recovered.  There were 25 stealings:  3- auto parts, 11- theft from auto; 8 shoplifting; and 3 stealing from building.

Community reports:

Ward Parkway:  They continue to work on getting speed bumps and are working with other neighborhood groups to help change the “archaic” laws regulating liquor establishments.  (This relates to the problems in Brookside with the Brooksider).

Waldo Homes:  One of the residents has been burglarized 2 times.  A request was made to have additional patrols in that area.

Rockhill Manor- It has been quiet.  Melanie stressed the need for everyone to more aware of their surroundings at all times (relating to the recent killings of the chef in Westport and student near Rockhurst).  She is working on projects that involve elementary children to be proactive on crime.

49/63-  There has been an increase in street robberies and assaults.  People are getting more bold and are willing to show force and weapons.  There is a potential gang problem.  A problem business has moved off of Troost onto Prospect.

Armour Hills- nothing

Brookside:  There has been some panhandling and shoplifting.  Charlie Hooper’s noted a minor incident with one of their “guests.”

Morningside:  There have been some suspicious people offering to shovel snow without any shovels.  Everyone encouraged being aware.

There were no other projects brought up at this time and the meeting was adjourned. The next C.P.A.C. meeting is scheduled for February 9, Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Southtown Planning Center at 6814 Troost. Please continue to network with other C.P.A.C. members, and residents, to encourage their attendance.
