231’s radio beat, city and state departments and two (2)
representatives from Metro Patrol Division met for the one
hundred and sixty sixth Community Police Action Cooperative
(CPAC) meeting. The meeting lasted from 4-5pm.
The meeting opened with introductions. Ravin Graham is a new
employee at Southtown working on the Waldo CID. Also Jonas
Baughman from KCPD was present to discuss the Japanese Coban
Community Policing system where there are small community police
posts that focus on their specific area rather than having
districts. He is interested in meeting with community
people to discuss their interest in such a system.
Other news:
·
Marti announced that Metro Patrol will hold the 30 Sector Watch
3 Roll Call at the Southtown Planning Center on Wednesday, Sept.

happens during the Roll Calls. Additional roll calls will
be held over the next few weeks for each of the Watches.
Stay tuned.
·
Pat Kelly is a new supervisor at Metro. The Waldo Fall Festival
is Sept. 19 and volunteers are needed.
·
Police Appreciation: It has been suggested that a
neighborhood association adopt Metro one day in a month and
provide treats for all the employees, i.e. cookies, donuts, etc.
The next month, another neighborhood would send treats.
This will take the place of the picnic for now. If a
neighborhood is interested, they should contact John Trainor at
Metro Patrol to coordinate the date and time.
Sgt. Pearce presented the August crime statistics. There
were 2 robberies: Dollar General and Quiznos. Cash
was taken both times. The robber from Quiznos was apprehended.
There were 19 burglaries of which 7 were non-residential.
Plaza Ford Cleaners was hit twice, Classic Cookie, Berbiglia at
State Line/75th, Pinnacle Therapy, Addie Rose, and
Carmen’s Café. Only Berbiglia, Plaza Ford and Classic
Cookie had losses. There is a tall, bald, African American
or Hispanic man that is breaking small windows in the rear of
businesses, enters, and only steals cash. In the
residential area, there is a pattern forcing rear or front doors
and stealing TV’s, laptops, stereos, and jewelry.
There was only 1 auto theft and 39 stealings- 5 auto parts, 13
theft from auto, 7 shoplifting, 8 stealing from building, and 6
other. It was also noted that Santa Hills neighborhood has been
getting hit hard lately.
Sgt. Pearce also reported that the Taco Bell on Wornall was
robbed by two black males with a rifle recently.
Pearce also noted that there are magazine sellers out in the
neighborhoods. They are neatly dressed and have city
permits.
Neighborhood Reports:
Brookside/Morningside:
There was an assault at the Brooksider, and shopliftings at
Beauty Express, CVS and Grocery stores. A wallet was taken
from a purse at Tuesday Morning. The neighborhood
continues to meet with the Brooksider to work out problems.
Armour Hills:
A burglar was caught in Armour Hills, confessed to a number of
burglaries in Kansas and was turned over to the Kansas police.
The neighborhood is having trouble with stealings from cars.
Waldo:
Rev. Barry Freese reported he had a walk around with a detective
to look at the items left by homeless people. There was no
evidence of stolen goods. There are parking issues with
the opening of The Well. A question has been raised about
having the Waldo Wizards throw away cardboard homes, etc. being
left by the homeless. It was recommended that the items be
removed to deter the homeless from staying.
Waldo Homes:
A Dog Park is planned for South Oak Park. There is a
neighborhood picnic this weekend. Someone has been
impersonating the officers of the association and asking
residents to pay them to remove their trash.
Here’s Waldo:
A Westport resident that sleeps at Sunnyside Park has been
complaining that the music from Murphy’s is too loud!
Rockhill Homes:
A liquor license has been requested for the Convenience shop at
75th and Holmes and the community is opposed.
Ward Parkway Homes:
The Dumpster Day was very successful. Thanks were extended
to the Police for the traffic control. A Home Safety
presentation was made to the association. There are
problems with vandalism at the vacant Hale Cook and a special
patrol was requested.
