On April 14, 2009, fifteen (15) representatives from the business and residential community in 231’s radio beat, city and state departments, five (5) visitors from Metro Task Force, and five (5) representatives from Metro Patrol Division met for the one hundred and sixty second Community Police Action Cooperative (CPAC) meeting. The meeting lasted from 4-5pm.
After introductions, Sgt. Pearce gave an update on the stats. There were 4 robberies: An armed robbery at CVS on 75th St. (a shoplifting gone bad). An armed robbery at Commerce Bank in Brookside; and 2 strong armed robberies. There were 2 strong armed robberies. A strong armed robbery at Brookside Market; and a couple that lived together got into a fight. He slapped her and snatched her purse.
There were 34 burglaries. The two suspects that have been burglarizing the residents west of town were caught. Their names are Michael Dorch (with 4 previous convictions) and Thomas Simmons (with 7 previous convictions). They were hard to catch because they had day and night patterns and were good at what they were doing. Another group of daytime burglars was caught on March 10th. There were 7 in the group. The police have had a lot of items returned to their rightful owners.
There were 3 stolen vehicles. There were 41 stealings: 10 auto parts, 15 from autos, 9 shoplifting, 6 from buildings, and 1 other.
TIPS: Be sure to record the serial numbers of your electronic items, i.e. TV’s, stereos, etc. The police have been relatively successful in returning items if there is proper identification on the goods.
Captain Houston welcomed and introduced 6 members from the Metro Task Force. One thing they are working on is illegal dumping. If you see someone dumping trash get as much info as possible and the task force will take it from there. A letter will be sent to the dumper.
Neighborhood Reports:
Tower Homes- Lately there are lots of 4 wheelers in the park. Sgt. Pearce reported that soon the Mounted Patrol would be patrolling Tower and Loose Parks. They have a zero tolerance for 4 wheelers in the parks.
Armour Hills- Nothing to report.
Brookside- There were a number of shopliftings. A 4-year old was missing but found standing by his parent’s car. Someone ran over a tree in front of Sharps.
Waldo: Ask if the police would check the premises around the Church due to loitering around the building.
Waldo Homes- Pretty quiet. On Monday, a man was held up with a shotgun on 80th Terr. & Grand after leaving the Library.
Here’s Waldo- No Report
Ward Parkway- Pretty quiet. Had 3 stealings, working on setting up a block watch, have talked with P.O. John Trainor and Chesley Brown.
Ward Parkway Estates- No report.
Morningside- Sharon mentioned she has informed her neighbors to go to Metro Police Department to see if any of the recovered stolen items belong to them. Still having problems with the Brooksider’s noise and trash everywhere. Capt. Caron said the Brooksider has been put on notice about the noise. Price Chopper said they are trying to be good neighbors by picking up some of the trash.
Other news: Lots of people are out selling magazines to residents from State Line to Wornall. They are all over but noticed a number of them in Waldo.
